A-Lab Activist Art Laboratory The A-Lab is a framework designed to entice creative reflection, exploration and collaborative creation between young artists from diverse environments in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and precisely from Prijedor, Sanski Most, Sarajevo, Široki Brijeg and Trebinje, developed and organized by Pravo Ljudski, through a project funded by a grant from the United States Department of State. Structured around three creative disciplines – photography, creative documentary film and audio-visual arts, and comic book art – the A-Lab is an intensive learning experience spanning both the technical aspects of each discipline, and the impact of collaborative practices in the arts. Participants focus on one chosen discipline, but rely on experience sharing and an interdisciplinary approach so to execute their respective projects in a most relevant and immersive way. The richness of the diverse backgrounds of the A-Lab tutors and staff, as well as the participants serves as a space for the young artists to individually or collaboratively articulate the relationship between their creative selves and the environments they interact with regularly. Throughout their journey, participants are given the tools and knowledge required to communicate their creative reflections with the world through a range of familiar mediums – both on-line and physical, taking the immersive A-lab from an insular, private experience to an accessible platform that outlasts the participants’ stay. Upon application, participants can choose to be a part of one of the three A-Lab programs: – The Film Lab; The A-Lab Film gives participants the opportunity to work together on creative documentary films reflecting on the social reality through sounds and images. The unique audio-visual stories of the young filmmakers created within the A-Lab will be developed in a truly collaborative manner, merging the participants’ diverse talents and ideas. – The Photography Lab; The Photo A-Lab group dissects social reality into images, glimpses, visions… While the group is open to different kind of artistic (re)creation, the image and its relation to reality is the main driver of the collaborative artworks created. – The Comic Book Art Lab. The participants of the Comic Book A-Lab learn to use the fantastic, imaginative and dynamic language of comic books to construct their own worlds, storylines and images of the reality surrounding them. Each of the labs has its own theme, which the participants explore while getting familiar with the practices of the particular discipline. Who can apply?
