Zoom Rights Youth Festival

The Zoom Rights Youth Program is an experience-sharing platform merging socially engaged cinema and art, youth activism and experiential and non-formal educational opportunities. As an educational program, it functions on three levels: critical (understanding and analysing films and themes covered by different films or artworks); cultural (widening youth experiences of film) and creative (young people create films themselves).

Although the Zoom Rights Youth Program functions as a year-long platform of activities, its festival activities, in the form of a three-day youth festival within the annual Pravo Ljudski Film Festival aimed at audience aged 14 to 25 is the most prominent activity.

Central to Zoom Rights is Zoom Documentary Film, which features screenings of current, engaged creative documentary cinema covering a range of topics relevant to the global, and local concerns and interests of the young audience.

Each year, a group of long-time participants of Zoom Rights form the Zoom Rights Youth Jury. The jury is tasked with selecting the Best Zoom Rights Youth Film, which most creatively addresses a subject relevant to a youth audience.

Zoom Animation spotlights creative storytelling solutions making use of the creative language of animated film.

The Future is Now is dedicated to the work of young filmmakers from regional creative documentary film schools. The program highlights films made by the participants of schools organized by and in cooperation with Pravo Ljudski, and functions as a platform for the promotion of cinema amongst youth in the region, as well as for the empowerment of aspiring young authors.

Alongside screenings, a number of educational workshops are organized during the three-day festival. These workshops serve not only to provide more diverse and open educational opportunities, but as a meeting point for young, creative individuals from the region who share common interests and modes of expression.

Finally, each year, the Zoom Rights Photo Contest brings in hundreds of photographic responses to a topic focusing on a range of environments, sensations, storylines and experiences, all from young photographers from across Bosnia and Herzegovina. Featured responses are displayed at an exhibition held during Zoom Rights, and a jury of individuals from various creative backgrounds acknowledges the contest’s most successful submission with the Best Zoom Rights Youth Photo award.
